“The earrings that won Best of Use of Color provide a gradient effect and took real time and effort to make. There were 1-millimeter amethysts in little curls, and tiny diamonds set upside down. The bead work and curls were polished to perfection. I woke up thinking about those earrings the day after I saw them.”

BEST USE OF COLOR: Robert Guild Jewelry

This year’s competition took place again in Dallas Oct. 22–23. The number of entries was nearly 10% higher than last year. Trends among entries included more Tourmalines and Spinel, yellow gold jewelry and step-cut gemstones, among others. Kornerupine and Dumortierite were among the rarest and most unusual gemstones entered, while a plethora of Sapphires in all hues were more familiar sights.

Our neighbors across the Loop and beyond have decked out their storefronts to help us celebrate Monet and Chicago.
